"Through our work with Northpointe, New York State has implemented the customized COMPAS risk and need assessment instrument throughout our probation departments, " explained Robert Maccarone, State Director, NYS Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives. "Probation practitioners now have the tools to identify a persons’ criminogenic needs and develop more effective case plans that will assist offenders in changing their behavior and reduce recidivism."

COMPAS Software Suite » COMPAS Core

COMPAS is a statistically based risk assessment specifically designed to assess key risk and needs factors in correctional populations and to provide decision-support for justice professionals when placing offenders into the community. It aims to achieve this by providing valid measurement and succinct organization of the relevant risk/need dimensions. A further goal of COMPAS is to help practitioners design case-management support systems for offenders in community and institutional placements. Fully web-based and windows compliant COMPAS is applicable to offenders at all seriousness levels from non-violent misdemeanors to repeat violent felons. COMPAS offers separate norms for males, females, community and incarcerated populations. All COMPAS titles include an integrated case planning module that provides a template that automatically populates the offender’s assessed needs results. Easy to use drop downs of "user configured" goals, tasks and activities tied to each need allows the user to build, and update over time, a custom case plan for each offender. The case plan also allows for the tracking of individual task referral, start and termination dates, termination reasons, service providers and other case outcomes.

COMPAS Core for Adult Offenders is designed for risk and need decision support for community based offenders and inmates entering prison. COMPAS allows you to select any combination of its 22 scales to most effectively assist in your specific decision support needs, while optimizing test length and administration time. After building your scale sets, COMPAS saves them for repeated use. COMPAS also allows for re-testing over time to measure changes in dynamic scales. Static data is brought forward automatically to eliminate redundant data entry.

You may also add additional scales to a previous assessment to distribute the workload across the case processing work flow, as the information is needed. Following on-screen navigation wizards, it is simple to set up SCALE SETS specific to your agency needs. Saving and selecting scale sets lends tremendous flexibility to the COMPAS Risk Assessment Instrument.

COMPAS Core offers a complete database that allows the user to develop case plans and track placement outcomes, offender profiles, program participation, caseload termination reasons and more. Other key features of COMPAS Core include:
